Oman is the Gulf's best-kept secret: dramatic wadis, golden dunes, cool green mountains, dolphins off the Muscat coast and a calm, welcoming culture. With direct flights from Lucknow to Muscat, it is also one of the easiest international trips for UP travellers. Here is how to plan it.
Why Oman
- Muscat: the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Mutrah Souq, the Royal Opera House and dolphin-watching cruises.
- Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar: forts, old souqs and the cool "Green Mountain" with terraced villages.
- Wahiba Sands and Wadi Shab: desert camps under the stars and turquoise canyon pools.
- Musandam: fjord-like inlets known as the "Norway of Arabia".
- Salalah: frankincense trails and white beaches in winter, and lush green hills during the summer khareef.
Getting there from Lucknow
Lucknow has direct flights to Muscat, roughly three and a half hours. Our packages are priced without flights, so add flights from Lucknow in Get a Quote and our IATA-approved desk will include them.
Oman visa for Indian travellers
Indian passport holders need an Oman e-visa before travel, which our visa desk applies for on your behalf. Indians holding certain valid visas or residence permits, such as from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan or Schengen countries, may qualify for easier entry options. Oman's new free 14-day tourist visa has not been opened to Indian citizens so far. Your passport must be valid for at least six months.
Best time to visit
- October to April: the main season for Muscat, the desert and the mountains, with warm sunny days.
- Late June to September: Salalah's khareef monsoon turns the southern hills green and misty, a favourite escape from Indian summer heat.
- December to February: Muscat Nights winter festival.
