Drive up to Mt Fuji's 5th Station (weather permitting) and cruise across Lake Ashi in Hakone.
Travel north to Iwaki on the Fukushima coast.
Discover the revitalised towns of Futaba, Okuma, Tomioka and Namie. Overnight in the Namie area.
Visit Minamisoma, then travel by bullet train to Hakodate in southern Hokkaido.
Explore the star-shaped Goryokaku fort and ride the Hakodate Ropeway for one of Japan's great night views.
Noboribetsu Jidaimura Edo village with a ninja experience, then a ryokan stay with hot-spring onsen and a kaiseki or live-grill dinner.
Transfer to Sapporo: Odori Park and the historic Clock Tower.
Day trip to Asahikawa Zoo for its famous winter penguin walk.
An Otaru canal boat tour and a glass-making studio, then on to your Niseko ski resort.
