Standing before the Pyramids of Giza, sailing the Nile past ancient temples and watching the sunrise over Abu Simbel — Egypt is a once-in-a-lifetime trip that is easier to plan than most people think. Here is everything travellers from Lucknow need to know.
Egypt's highlights
- Cairo and Giza: the Pyramids and Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Coptic Cairo and the Khan el-Khalili bazaar.
- Alexandria: the Mediterranean city of the ancient library and Qaitbay Citadel.
- The Nile cruise: three or four nights between Luxor and Aswan, stopping at Karnak, Edfu and Kom Ombo temples.
- Luxor: the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple, with optional hot-air balloon flights at dawn.
- Abu Simbel: Ramesses II's colossal rock temples near the Sudan border.
- The Red Sea: beach resorts at Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh, with world-class snorkelling.
Egypt visa for Indian travellers
Most Indian passport holders apply for an Egypt e-visa before travel. The official single-entry fee is currently US$30, and it allows a stay of up to 30 days. Apply at least 10–14 days before departure. A visa on arrival is available to Indians only in specific cases, such as holding a valid, used US, UK or Schengen visa. Reports suggest Egypt will raise visa fees from 1 January 2027, so trips booked now avoid the increase. Our visa desk handles the application for you.
Best time to visit
October to April is the best time for sightseeing, with warm days and cool evenings. December to February is peak season on the Nile. Summers are very hot in Luxor and Aswan, though the Red Sea coast stays popular.
